The Tasmanian Government is developing a 20-Year Preventive Health Strategy to improve Tasmania’s health outcomes for generations to come. We aim to change the systems that affect our health and support people in adopting healthier behaviours to create a healthier Tasmania.
Learn more in the 20-Year Preventive Health Strategy Discussion Paper.
The Discussion Paper is the starting point in developing our Strategy. It outlines the need for a long-term systems approach, our vision for preventive health, the areas where we will take action and the things that will help us, and the roles that all levels of government, services and community can play.
Our aims
We will enable:
- Tasmanian people and families to achieve good health and wellbeing
- Tasmanian communities to be liveable, vibrant and connected
- our systems to give people the right care, in the right place, at the right time.
Focus areas (what we will do):
-
Create and strengthen safe and healthy food environments
-
Reduce and eliminate exposure to harmful products and behaviours
-
Improve our environments for health and wellbeing
-
Strengthen prevention across the life course
-
Take a health equity approach.
Why your feedback is important:
We would like to hear from you about how we can improve preventive health in Tasmania. Your feedback will help us:
- identify ways we can strengthen our existing activity
- identify what the right focus areas are
- identify practical actions to achieve the vision and aims of a 20-year strategy, and
- build widespread community support to ensure the strategy receives the support and resources it needs for effective implementation.
Our long-term strategy will not list all the actions we are going to take over the next 20 years. Instead, it will provide a framework and direction for travel.
The detail about specific actions will be in action plans that we will develop for each 4-year period under the strategy.
Your feedback will be used to inform both the development of the strategy and its action plans
