Thank you for expressing interest in the Tasmanian Department of Health Low Risk Human Research Ethics Committee (LRR Ethics Committee). Please note that you can contribute in one of two ways:
1. LLR Research Ethics Committee Member
The primary role of the LRR Ethics Committee is to review, evaluate, approve, and monitor research undertaken within all services for which the Department of Health is responsible e.g., hospitals, ambulances, community health, and related areas such as primary healthcare. Some Quality Improvement (QI) and Audit projects may also require ethical review.
Time commitment = approximately 1 day per month (½ day preparation, 2-3 hr monthly meeting)
2. Pool of Experts
The LRR Ethics Committee may call upon subject matter experts, research methodology specialists, representatives from identified cultural groups, and clinicians with specialist knowledge and expertise to provide advice on specific matters related to lower risk research, QI, or audit projects.
Time commitment = approximately 2-3 days per year (determined on a case-by-case basis – some reviews will take 1-2 hrs while other reviews may take longer. Attendance at a LRR Ethics Committee meeting may be negotiated between the Chair and an expert reviewer).
